監督からのメッセージ

５年ほど前初めてデリック･ジェンセンの話を聞いた。彼の話は私に、地球上の生命を救うためには文明が終わらなければならない、ということを確信させた。環境の壊滅的破壊が進むなかで、人々はますますこの考えに同意するのに困難を感じなくなってきている。そうなのだ。この危機は人間によって引き起こされたものであって、自然を死に追いやるインフラストラクチュアは私たち自身の手によって破壊されなければならないのだ。真実を見ない心の偏った人たちだけが、私たちが自滅への道を進んでいるということがわからないのであり、最近の日本の核の惨事はこの文明の狂気のひとつの例に過ぎない。

10月、私は私の作品END:CIVと共に日本を訪れる。私の目的は、対話と行動を呼び起こすためにデリック･ジェンセンの考えを新たな観客に伝えることだ。そしてまた私は、産業資本主義の拡大に抵抗し、この終末論的文脈のなかで新たな現実を創り出そうとしている、アナーキストやラディカルな考えを持つ人々に出会いたいと思っている。

About 5 years ago I first heard Derrick Jensen speak and he convinced me that in order to save life on the planet, civilization must be dismantled. As the current ecological catastrophe unfolds, more and more people find it less difficult to agree with this statement. Yes, this crisis is man made, and the infrastructure that’s murdering nature must be destroyed…by us. Only the blind or deranged can fail to see the suicidal path we’re traversing and Japan’s latest nuclear disaster is one just one more example of the insanity of civilization.

In October, I’ll be touring Japan with my film END:CIV. My aim is to bring the ideas of Derrick Jensen to new audiences in the hopes of sparking conversations and action. I also hope to meet anarchists and radicals who are currently resisting the expansion of industrial capitalism and creating new realities within the context of the apocalypse.
